Well, here we are. Wicked Bird Media officially opened its doors on Tuesday. And wow, the support has been positively overwhelming. We can’t thank you enough.
Jessica and I built this business to help you create entertaining and informed digital content and video production solutions that keep up with the demands of a constantly-changing media landscape. Our combined marketing and project management experience, creative support, filmmaking skills, and resources turn Wicked Bird Media into a powerhouse that offers over 20 different services. We’re already working with some amazing people, companies, and media agencies, and we can’t wait to work with you, too!
We also built this company to nurture our passion for filmmaking and are committed to seeing an increase in the amount of independent productions in New England. In the future we will be creating a hub that will offer affordable services, classes, equipment rentals, and resources for filmmakers and productions wanting to shoot locally. Not only do we believe that our efforts will attract more filming, but we also believe that it will create more in-state jobs and, potentially, a sustainable film industry. How amazing would that be? We’re excited about it.
But it’s obvious though that there is a lot of research and planning to do. And the process of determining exactly where we should start has been challenging. So we decided to start with what we know best… we’re going to make a movie. A wicked fun and wicked educational movie.
SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES will be the first-ever exploration into the connection between contemporary horror culture and New England. The film will dissect popular conventions of the horror genre, identifying how they’re driven by the eerie settings, history, and social issues of the area. Through discussions with genre luminaries, local directors, actors, horror fans, and New England natives, it will also help us discover if the area’s history and passion for horror are strong enough to help grow an independent film industry.
Cool? We hope you think so. And wait until we start telling you about the people we are lining up for the project.
But before we can do that, we need to raise some capital to get the ball rolling, and we need your help. We chose Kickstarter to do this because its efforts reflect our mission: a project is only as strong as the community that supports it.
Visit the SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES Kickstarter campaign to learn more about the film. And if we’ve convinced you that this is a good idea, we hope that you’ll donate and join us on our mission to support and increase independent film production. Not only will you learn some mind-blowing stuff about the horror genre and culture in New England, you’ll also learn how a community can influence a film industry movement.
